Sweden's Stockholm Archipelago is a "magical, breathtakingly beautiful islescape" with more than 24,000 islands, islets and skerries, where only about a thousand is inhabited. It's the summer paradise for boaters and canoers. The archipelago spans a distance of more than 100 kilometres (~ 62 miles) across, from north to south, with lots of restaurants, hotels, hostels and campgrounds. Visiting around the Christmas time to enjoy the archipelago in the winter is also a great idea. You can tour the islands on your own or depart from central Stockholm on one of the classic 19th century white ferries. Just imaging canoeing in the archipelago, in between thousands of islands ...
